Kiteboarding News Thursday February 28th 2008 - We're going to be holding elections on March 8th at 7:00 PM The elections will be held at The Port of Hood River Offices Boardroom. It is the building across from the Hood River Bridge Toll Booth. Plenty of parking. We encourage everyone that is able to attend to do so. If you cannot attend the meeting you can email your votes to admin@cgka.net. We will have ballots ready and available for download by March 4th. We have many more people on board for the Board of Directors this year and we are looking forward to the upcoming season. We plan on branching away from Hood River more this year and have appointed Stevenson & Lyle launch co-ordinators. We will also be having a cleanup at the Stevenson Launch. A new website is also on the way! We're also in the process of getting a new PO Box Saturday August 11th 2007 - CGKA Annual Blowout! We're having a race from Stevenson to Hood River. See the Calendar Page for more details. Saturday June 23rd 2007 - The second sandbar cleanup work party was a total success. The 3 primary log piles that we were unable to remove during the first work party have been collected, removed to a pile where they posed almost no danger and burned. We now have huge kite beach that is completely free of all the logs and debris that came down during the november flood which posed a major safety hazard to people learning how to kite. Some pictures of the cleanup can be found on nwkite.com and also here on nwkite.com. A HUGE HUGE Thank you to everyone involved! It was a great day of working, kiting and spending good times with good friends. And more pictures here Saturday May 26th 2007 - An inexperienced kiter was drug by his kite into one of the log piles that were formed on May 19th. Fortunately the kiter suffered no major injuries, only a sprained wrist. The CGKA would like to remind everyone seek quality instruction before learning how to kite board, and always be aware of your location and distance to other objects and/or kiters. We also strongly encourage the use of helmets, especially when learning. Saturday May 19th 2007 - First sandbar work cleanup party of 2007. What an amazing turnout! almost 200 people showed up to help clean all the logs, stumps and other debris that came down last November when the Hood River flooded. Through our efforts we made a total of 6 humongous log piles and were able to burn 2 of them. Our goal of consolidating all the dangerous or hazardess material was acheived and all the stumps/logs/debris that posed a safety hazard were moved into piles minimizing the chance for an accident and clearing over 95% of the beach. It was a tremendous success, the sandbar is now a beautiful clean beach. Photos of the work party and after party can be found here on NWKite.com Another set of 200 pictures can be found here A huge thank you goes to all the kiting community that was there and helped, and also a huge thanks to the local boys with the big rigs who brought there trucks and made cleaning the sandbar in one day a possibility. | |
